Tamaryokucha | 玉緑茶
Tamaryokucha, also known as guricha, literally translates as "ball-shaped green tea".
This is a type of steamed green tea that is made by skipping the final rolling process. The tea leaves are placed in a rotating drum and dried with hot air, which causes the tea leaves to take on a rounded comma-shaped appearance. Because it is less processed than sencha, it has less astringency and is characterized by its mellow umami flavour.
Although tamaryokucha is most commonly produced in Kyushu's north and central parts, the Ureshino region in Saga Prefecture is most famous for this tea.
